EVA Case Customization 101 Design & Build Basics

Recently, one of our customers mentioned that it would be helpful for buyers if we could create a blog about Step by Step EVA Case Customization.  While this may seem like a basic topic for us, having produced various cases for decades, it can be very informative for buyers who may not have much experience in this area.

Please read the following information, which we hope will help you develop cases that meet your specific needs and are truly fit for purpose.

Outer Shell Material

Polyester and PU are commonly used as outer materials for EVA cases.  This is because the outer covering must have enough elasticity to stretch.  If not, the material may wrinkle or become defective in certain areas.

As a professional case manufacturer, we provide guidance if our buyers choose their own outer shell material.  It's important that the selected material fits the intended purpose.

One example: A customer wanted to use PU for a protective case for measuring tools.  While PU gives a premium, leather like feel, we advised against it.  His case was meant for use in extreme construction environments, where durability was critical.  We suggested 1680D Polyester instead, which is more robust and suitable for such conditions.  He agreed, made a sample, and sent it for durability testing.  As expected, it passed.  He was very pleased with the outcome, otherwise, there could have been complaints from end users if the wrong material had been chosen.

Lining Options

The lining material depends on the type of device inside the case.  For example, velvet lining is suitable for optical or watch cases, as its soft, suede like texture helps prevent scratches.

In contrast, devices like medical equipment often require smooth, waterproof linings.  These cases must be easy to clean, especially if the inside gets dirty.  A suitable lining allows quick and simple maintenance.

Unfortunately, many manufacturers in China use tricot as a standard lining without much consideration.  They focus only on cost and production convenience, overlooking the practical use and potential side effects of using the wrong material.

Insert Options

Most of the time, we use die cut EVA inlays as a cost effective solution to hold your equipment securely.  However, if the shapes or styles of the items are too complex or not suitable for standard die cutting, we may recommend using an EVA molded tray or CNC foam insert instead.  Our solution will be based on the specific details and requirements you provide for your project.

Inside Pocket Options

Besides the main device, extra pockets are often needed for accessories.  Many buyers aren’t sure what kind of inner pockets are suitable.

As an experienced EVA case solution provider in China, we usually recommend mesh pockets with elastic bands if the accessories should be easily accessible and visibility isn’t a concern.  For accessories that need to stay secure or hidden, such as jewelry, we suggest polyester inner pockets with zippers to keep everything safe and in place.

Logo Options

For a simple, durable, and cost effective solution, debossed or embossed logos directly on the case are ideal.  However, if the logo has fine details or complex design elements, alternatives like woven labels, rubber patches, metal plates, or TPU embossed logos may be better.

We’ll recommend the best option to showcase your brand.  A well designed case isn’t just protective, it becomes a moving marketing tool throughout the product’s lifecycle.

Zipper Options

For office or kids’ products, we recommend regular nylon zippers for smooth and easy use.  For specific industries or functions, waterproof nylon zippers are necessary.

For instance, a customer developing a first aid kit case needed durability in extreme conditions.  We insisted on high quality, waterproof YKK zippers.  For life saving equipment, it's crucial that everything inside functions properly and stays protected.  As a responsible manufacturer, it’s our job to make sure your product performs reliably when it matters most.

Handle Options

Handle choices depend on the case's size and weight.  For large, heavy cases, we recommend webbing handles with plastic grip parts for comfort and durability.  For smaller, simpler cases, a basic webbing handle can help reduce costs.

We always use suitable components to match the purpose, ensuring our proposals stand out from other manufacturers in the market.

Accessories Options

Whether you prefer metal or plastic accessories, all components we use pass luggage grade loading and aging tests.  Whichever case you develop with us, you won’t need to worry about broken parts or user complaints, something we hear often from buyers working with low cost suppliers.

Many factories reduce costs by using cheap, stock accessories. Naturally, this affects the final product quality.  With us, you can be confident in what you’re getting.

Finally, we are happy to support your case development, no matter your industry.  Our goal is to provide reliable, long lasting products that keep your valuable items safe.
